Drew it mostly to get my ass back into drawing + a bit of style experiment/practice/attempt of improvement.

I was pretty fed up with my faint colouring style so I wanted this to be really scratchy, raw and bold. I thought watercolour pencils would be a great tool for that, but they eventually didn't end up being so great.... neither as scratchy as I expected nor vivid enough, so I went through it once with markers. Then the colours were pretty screwed by the scanning, so I had to adjust the contrast a bit... this way I lost a bit of detail, but at least the colours look like the real thing.

Too bad, there is no copy/paste tool in traditional art

Yeah, I know the background sucks and is pretty good at that. But I tried my best >_____>

I wouldn't say I was totally successful at this as an experiment, but not bad for the first time. The first drawing I've drawn in a long while, definitely.

I wanted to at least partially break away from my own conventions. The result is, it doesn't look the slightest bit like Jonathan.... but I feel there is something - something very little - in it that looks like the real man.... If I can catch this something and improve it, I can take my drawings to the next level.


I will dedicate this to , who was, for one thing, very kind to let me use her pic for practice, and for the second, is great at nifty, clean and at the same time really cute anime-ish style, which you should all check out.
